I'll admit I was hesitant when I one-clicked this book. I had some reservations about book one yet felt compelled to know more about these characters, and more importantly the outcome of some of them. While this story isn't an easy read, with a number of brutal scene's, including dub/non con, in my humble opinion they fitted the story, and drove the plot as opposed to overwhelming it, which was my issue with book one.
Having read this story, I find myself totally invested in the characters and can't wait to continue with their journey.

Dream God SGods Book 2 edition by J Johanis Indigo Forest Designs Jason Bradley Romance eBooks Reviews
Wow…so intense. Dream God, by J Johanis, is the second book in the S-Gods series and from start to finish I felt as though I was holding my breath. In my opinion, reading book 1, Claimed by the Order, is mandatory before starting Dream God.
For one reason, it picks up right where book 1 stopped and that is with Aya being in the protection of Akad waiting for the trial against the order to start.
While the first book was very intense and sometimes brutal in translation, there were moments that I felt confused about what was happening. Luckily, book 2 answers so many questions and feels in plot holes making much more sense. There are many Gods and Goddesses to keep straight but the further you get into the story the more you understand.
Aya is a Dream God but visiting his dreams have only brought pain and heartache to him. His mother explained to him how he would know his soul mate when he found him and Aya was sure that title went to Marduk. However, since lying with Akad and experiencing the dream like feelings he is unsure of who his true soul mate is.
One thing he does know for sure is that he cannot survive another encounter with Seth, the God that brutally raped and attacked him for years. If he and Marduk can find enough evidence to present the courts they may be able to be rid of the evil that makes up the order.
J Johanis completely swept me up in this story and I constantly feared for Aya, Marduk, and Akad. As the trial looms closer, the back stabbing, the lies, and the brutality seemed endless. All hope for Aya to be free left a sickening feeling in my gut. There were so many people against him and telling lies that his future looked very bleak.
Thank goodness for Marduk and his strength and for seeing the truth when all else failed. With his strong connection to Aya and having the ability to see inside Aya’s dreams there may just be a chance for them to win their trial against the order.
Even though this was a very intense read, the author shows the gentler sides of Akad and Marduk. Their love is strong, but even they were tested, repeatedly, and sometimes failed to see past the fog. As I said, I felt as though I held my breath through the biggest part of the story. The author takes you on a journey, through twists and turns, and you find yourself doubting everything.
Their journey doesn’t end here as the author gives us a sneak peek into book 3 and just by the brief look we get it looks as if we will be in for another intense and thrilling ride.
This series is dark, at times, but addicting, and the author doesn’t pull any punches. There are moments that are cringing because you have already formed attachments to the main characters.
You find yourself pulling for and cheering them on and hoping they find the strength to get to the other side. Don’t give up because there is laughter and love just waiting for them to grab it.
I have to say that I was quite relieved with how the ending turned out. About half way through I started running this particular scenario through my head as a what-if. I think the direction the author is taking is the only way true happiness can be found.
I am looking forward to the next book in this series and also to see how the characters have grown. Not only in strength, but with their powers in visions and dreams. Hopefully, the nightmares are behind them… hopefully.

Before I start, I need to say that readers really need to pay attention to the warnings on this. There are graphic scenes of sexual violence and dubious consent (not normally a phrase I like because I just call that "rape," but it's the best description in this case). The main plot is about a rape trial, and the usual victim-blaming tactics are used by the defense. It's clear those are harmful, but even so, it could be hard for some people to read due to triggers or to being highly sensitive.
That said, I loved this book. I was excited to read it, since I read the first one and thought it was fantastic. It is absolutely necessary to read the first one for context.
I'm a sucker for a story that's thoroughly researched, well-written, and has a lot of plot---particularly if it revolves around a social issue. This book did not disappoint, even though it's pretty hardcore erotica. That level of sex isn't usually my thing (nor do I typically choose books with non-consensual sex). But the characters are compelling, and the story draws you in.
As I mentioned, this is erotica, so there is a lot (and I do mean a LOT) of sex, with a wide range of emotional interaction in each scene. The three main characters---Akad, Marduk, and Aya---are all gods. They have apparently never learned to communicate what they're actually thinking or feeling, so there are a number of misunderstandings before they get their happy-for-now ending (until the next book, of course).
Marduk was my favorite in the last book, and I still adore him. I think he largely represents the rational mind. He's steady and thoughtful, compared to Aya's sensitive heart and Akad's temper. He's had both of the other gods as lovers, and he balances them. I enjoyed seeing his character development since the last book.
I may possibly have been just a little in love with Aya. I wanted to protect him after everything he had to endure. Watching him suffer through the trial was intense and heartbreaking. He had disappointed me so much in the first book, but I was happy to see he'd grown as well.
Akad still feels like an unknown, aloof and with a simmering temper. He's protective of the ones he loves, and he will clearly go to any length for them. It will be interesting to see where his story arc goes. Of the three, I feel like I know him least.
The sex in these stories does not always fit into neat categories of relationship vs. rape. It is always clear in these novels where the lines are between consensual, romantic/erotic sex, consensual but emotionless/necessary sex, and non-consensual sex. However, these are gods, and they use sex in various ways to enhance and wield their power. What makes that interesting is how it's used during the trial to increase the atmosphere of victim-blaming which Aya and Marduk have to battle.
Be prepared to bring your thinking game to this book. It's not light and fluffy, and it's not pure escapism. It requires some thought and concentration to process the multiple angles and scenarios. It's extremely well done, and I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes.
What a great series, I love dark, gritty story lines! Looking forward to additional books in this series!
