This is a fast read and I finished it in one day. Even though it was a fast read, I wanted to immediately start reading the next novel to see what happened next. I’m no expert on books, but I did enjoy this story line and characters. Vikings, witches, magic, and romance… can’t go wrong! It's a fast short read that grabs you. It has vikings, mermaids, witches, and other mythical beings. Willow is a mermaid that has set her sights on Sven. Secrets are unearthed about Willow. This book has adventure, passion, and suspense that pull you in with it's magic web.
A nice follow up to the first of the Vikings series - a nice twist of a classic Viking tale with lots of paranormal flair. Not much by way of character development, but it is a quick read and a tiny cliffhanger that will ensure I come back for #3.
Willow's character is unique, I loved her and her courage. Seven is my hero, I wish there where real men out there like him, honest, brave, enduring.
You will hang on your seats as you learn about Willow and her past.
Viking Born is a great read and follows Viking for Hire, so that one should be read first. Full of mystery, supernatural, and..... a mermaid? Great stuff!
I really enjoyed this addition to the series and look forward to more to see what happens next. Good, clean, and quick read.

"Viking Born" is the second book in a romantic serial that begins when Sven, a skilled navigator returning with his longship to New Dorset becomes entranced by a beautiful mermaid following behind after a mer attack. The story heats up when Willow transforms into a mysterious woman haunted by the past whose destiny not only becomes entwined with Sven, but his adopted brother Eirik the Viking sea captain and his fiancée the witch Branwyn
Into a plot set within a week after the first serial " Viking for Hire" Jo Grafford captures your imagination with mystery, myth, mermaids, Vikings, witches and a ghost. The novella progresses smoothly, tension building with a sudden storm and a ghostly encounter that almost rips the ship apart. With skillful dexterity for such a short story the author reveals the mystery of Willow's past through a ghostly visitation, revealing her magical power and then creatively tying her future not only to Sven but Eirik and Branwyn.
Sven a brooding handsome bo'sun is tough but fair when one of the crew want to kill Willow instead of letting her speak to him. He's considerate and just giving Willow back her conch shell necklace and letting her decide whether to remain on land or go back to the sea. Willow the enigmatic mermaid haunted by the loss of her people is impulsive and rash in her actions, smitten by the sexy Viking she sees when the mer attacked. In a romance that's bold, quick and electric they are swept away, speaking words that bind them together forever. The reader is captivated by the passion, energy and drama of these characters.
" Viking Born" is well-written, but I wish the plot and characters had been further developed. Nevertheless, I liked it and intend to follow this serial further

This book picks up just after the first book in the series. It is now a week later and Eirik, Branwyn and Sven are still trying to make it to New Dorset. While Sven is watching the heavens and the ocean for any signs of danger, he has another premonition of the storm that is coming. Not just any storm, but
While he is walking between the rowers, helping where needed, he tries to ignore the ghostly specters that he always has to deal with, when a mermaid appears in front of him. He asks her what she wants while holding a dagger to her throat. She says they were forced to be part of the attack on the boat through black magic. When he reaches out to pull her in, she disappears, but not before Sven has detached her conch shell necklace.
I can't say more without spoilers, but you will want to read this series if you like historical books with witches, etc. Another great book in this series. Can hardly wait for the next book to come out.

I was a huge fan of Sven in the first book and I was so glad to see him get his own story. Let me tell you, the sexy, brooding Viking did not disappoint!
The author's writing was beautiful, as always, and the world-building details were so cleverly drawn. The plot of the overall story has become so intriguing that I can't wait for the next book in the series. I'm definitely hooked!
