The book focuses on Christian a 782 year old vampire who meets a 13 year old girl and because he can't mentally control her when they break into her house, becomes attracted to her and takes her when she turns 19 years old to become his human pet. I found some positives and negatives when reading this story and regardless, it is a story that you will stay with to see how it ends. The positive is that I like my vampires to be evil, dangerous, killers with not an ounce of sparkly docile Twilight in them. The negatives? Of course Christian is a sterotypical beautiful hunk and I don't like reading about totally submissive kidnap victims who fall head over heels in love with their kidnapper who does everything sexually(rape) with them even if it kills her. Christian holds a dark obsession toward Juliette, knowing he will eventually kill her as he has all his previous pets, using her for sex and feeding from her, completely dominating her. I couldn't connect this obsession with the idea of his caring for her beyond the sex and blood. It's not in his character if I believe what he tells her in the beginning and anything beyond that doesn't make sense. She's a possession, nothing more, but the author tries to make me believe differently.Tags : The Last Girl - Kindle edition by Kitty Thomas. The Last Girl edition by Kitty Thomas Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Oh my gosh. Wow. What the heck did I just read. That was AMAZING!!! I love Christian. I don’t know if I am supposed to. But. I do. This book was so good.
Juliette was the perfect lady for this book. She was strong even when she didn’t think she was. She is Christian’s other half. I am so glad I read this and yes this will definitely be a book I reread many times. I definitely recommend!!!
Somewhere in the mist of the romance associated with vampires and their undying love, we choose to forget that everything about them is shaped to be the most deadly of predators. Everything about them, their smell, their beauty, their charm, their speed, their strength, the seductiveness is meant to draw you in for an easy kill. Because let's face it, humans would be easy prey. If they existed there would be a never-ending suicidal train of humans longing to be Vlad's Elisabata. Male and female..lol. To me it would make more sense for vampires to be dark beings. They live forever and probably within the first 100 years have had a taste of every decadence and pleasure available, only to take the next 100 years and explore what not only can be stretched, but also can be improved. Such is the case with Christian, our not so virtuous hero. He found Juliette at a rather young age and remained fascinated with her throughout her growth into womanhood. Six years is a drop in the bucket to a vampire but the patience is quite another thing altogether. It was a six year torture for the man himself of waiting for the right time to strike. For even though he knew he would eventually destroy her, the temptation she presented pushes aside all residual human emotions with the exception of possessiveness. But could he save her? Or would she become just another on his list and in his locked room?
As much as Christian tries to put distance between the two of them, he can't help the emotions rising up inside of him. He knew it was pointless to fight his nature, so he had to plan around it. Could he give her up in order to save her life?
Juliette has known Christian wasn't finished with her since the first day she met him. She knew somewhere in the back of her mind that he would be back, she was just never sure when. It was almost a relief when he finally claimed her. She just never fully fathomed what being in his world really entailed. The dark parts of her soul rejoiced at finally being with him, because only he held the keys to her most intimate fantasies. And those fantasies, were wrapped up in leather and chains.
This was, in my mind, a more accurate portrayal of these beings if they did roam the earth. The most deadly of predators with a taste for fear and pain. Playing with their food before the sampled and indulging in all forms of decadence. The question will always remain on how much of their humanity the would retain. I think the answer lies in the being itself! Great read!!
Wow. WOW. Seriously, Wow. I loved this book. From the first word to the last, I couldn't get enough. It is hot, like white hot times infinity. It is dark and sexy. It's mysterious.
Christian is a 782 year old vampire. He's been around the block a few times. Enough to lose interest in following what society says is right or wrong. He is immortal, and he will do what he damn well chooses to do. And not you, or I, or Joe Blow down the street are going to tell him any different. Christian is the type of vampire that will take your typical alpha male and disintegrate him.
Ok, Liz, calm it down... gush much?
As soon as Juliette's story starts I'm frightened. The author does a superb job of bringing that fear to life as you realize that you are the only one home, and that home is now being broken into. And you are only 13. My pulse quickened and I hoped they wouldn't find her. But they did. Thud Thud THUD. Yeah, that was my heart beating when I was reading it.
She keeps her eyes closed, just like the blurb says. She does as she is told. But then... then.... AHHHH!! I can't tell you!!!!! Dang it!!
Every word in this story drips fear. But it also wreaks of knowing. Juliette knows that when its over, its not really over. And boy oh boy, that Christian is one clever vampire. He decides he will have her.
"That night six years ago, he'd seemed to be somewhat in charge of things. His voice held the same maturity and dark command back then that it holds now."
Maybe I am a vampire groupie, but Christian's brutal charisma makes his capture of Juliette seem like a pretty good deal to me. It's almost as if she is being afraid because she thinks she should be.
"It is the hedonistic and animal side that craves pleasure, even if the cost is pain and fear."
This book is poetic and dark beauty, most of it is the channel of Juliette's thoughts, the journey her soul takes. I may gush and go on and on about this story, but take heed of the warnings, this story is not for everyone. It is dark erotica. But it is fabulous and well written. If you have an open mind it will take you on a fabulous trip.
It's not just about sex. It explores ownership, just like the author, Kitty Thomas, says she likes to do with her writing. It explores lust versus love, need versus want. Forever versus as long as he lets you live.... See, Christian knows he has a line that he will eventually cross, and he knows that the end is near for Juliette. She's human, she will not be able to withstand his needs.
